 Course Objectives

 Participant will understand

  •  how to structure a guided imagery session 

  •    facilitating the client in finding a safe place so the client can explore their inner worlds with support.

  • The guide helps their clients explore their own truths and manifest them for themselves.

 

Participant will be familiar with how

  • Guided imagery is designed to assist the client with 

  • chronic illness, pain, 

  •  side effects from medications 

  •  stress-related symptoms

  •    Reducing anxiety

  • Addressing emotional expression or release

  • Exploring/understanding of parts and aspects of self.

  • Enhancing body image

Participant will learn about

  • Mind/Body/spirit connection:

  •     Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) is the rapidly growing field of science, which explores the complex interaction between the neurological system, the immune system and the endocrine systems, in a word, their “intercommunication.”

  • The psychological piece comes from the important underlying idea in PNI that stress is harmful to your body overall.

  •     The placebo effect-the power the mind has over the body; the ways our personal beliefs and mental activity affect the body; making it well with positive thoughts and unwell with worried and negative thoughts.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR 

Ellen Curran is a registered nurse living in Southern New Hampshire. She became interested in Guided Imagery when her young daughter became ill. With the help of healing imagery and medical intervention her daughter is a happy, well child today. Her daughter continues to use imagery for coping, stress management and side effects that accompany her on-going medical treatments. Ellen is certified in Interactive tm Guided  Imagery, through a program sponsored by the National Holistic Nurses Association called, “Beyond Ordinary Nursing”. She did her internship for one year in the Pain Management Department at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic in New Hampshire and has started a private practice in Londonderry New Hampshire. She sees many children and adolescents for pain control for multiple problems such as fibromyalgia, migraine headache and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Many adults also use this technique for the same issues. Ellen has a few new patients, requesting imagery for wound healing, side effects of chemotherapy and preparation for surgery. She is a member of the International Association of Interactive Imagery tm and the American Holistic Nurses’ Association as well as a Certified Emergency Nurse Her book, titled, Guided Imagery for Healing Children and Teens, was published in May 2001 by Beyond Words Publishing.
