INNERLANDSCAPE: Bridging Evidence Based Therapy with Alternative Therapy Approaches

16 CE $176.00                                                                    CLICK TO ORDER

We are clinicians in a time of change.  Our field is increasingly requiring our documentation of evidenced based treatments and knowledge of neuroscience.  Yet, many of us were trained in disciplines that encouraged patience, time, empathy and compassion alongside interventions to engage and explore the human psyche and spirit.  How do we identify Evidences Based treatment?  How do we justify and document our own course of therapy with clients in these changing time?  Are the client centered, psychodynamic approaches mutually exclusive with the Cognitive Behavioral Approaches?  No.  In fact in every Evidence Based Therapy training I have attended, the necessity for trust and empathy  in the clinical setting is always emphasized.  I have found there are certain clients who truly struggle with verbalizing feelings, thoughts or conceptualizing behaviors and having access to alternative modalities of treatment and techniques opens the pathway to the cognitive behavioral work.  In developing the model of Innerlandscape, I drew from 25 years as a licensed clinician.  I have worked in a variety of settings from community mental health, to schools to private practice with people from many cultures, abilities, and socioeconomic levels. I have also been a student of alternative systems of healing and the arts for many years.

This course begins with a review of current evidence based therapy and continues to an introduction of the concept of Innerlandscape and the practices or art, writing, movement, meditation.     While Cognitive Behavioral interventions are very successful and provide great coping tools, I still believe that there is a discontent becoming evident in our society which may require a deeper level of soul searching and healing to transform.  This is the work of Innerlandscape.

Course Description

This 16 CE training introduces the clinician to the Innerlandscape Model which bridges the teachings and structure of evidence based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy  with recognized alternative approaches of art, writing, movement and meditation. While offering  evidence based therapeutic interventions, the author invites the clinician and client to go deeper and explore the Innerlandscape.    Stay focused on the presenting symptoms while still paying attention to the communication from other parts of consciousness .  Many exercises and interventions are provided  to address challenges of the body ,mind ,and spirit.  This course with references and links to neurobiology and clinical diagnoses is exclusively for clinicians.   A workbook and online version of  Innerlandscape is also available for purchase by clients.

Author Statement

Being comfortable with uncertainty, excited by the adventure, content in the moment, and appreciative of the opportunity to learn and participate in life: this is the aspect of psychology that most intrigues me.  With all the blessings of technology and industrialization, perhaps, we have created a gap in our honoring of the gift of life: the difference each of us makes in the simple act of being here and discovering our gifts.  In my work, both art and healing, I hope to inspire others to reconnect with their creativity and their gifts.

Author BIO

I currently hold a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado and a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from John F Kennedy University in Orinda, CA.  I have practiced as a licensed clinician in the field since 1982 both in California and New Mexico.  I taught in the graduate psychology program at Antioch University, San Francisco.  I have developed programs to coordinate mental health services in schools and throughout the communities while training and supervising graduate students. Working with many people from many cultures and many walks of life, I have gained extensive experience in addiction, recovery, abuse, chronic pain, loss, grief, meditation, and disability treatment.   I have walked the paths with many clients through great suffering and pain.  With Dr. Alf Johnson, I worked in identifying traits of resiliency in multi- cultural, multi- challenged populations while providing clinical services in public school settings. Dr. Johnson and I recognized these traits as primary in the work we did together developing The Y Team, an AMA award winning program, in the Richmond Schools, which coordinated county mental health with graduate interns to provide mental health to culturally diverse children and families in a school district of over 20,000 students from all socio-economic backgrounds.  In Taos, NM  I worked in a school intervention program through Taos Mental Health. I worked with Los Angelitos as an on site and in home mental health consultant providing services to families of children 3 and under with disabilities. While needing multi-leveled support, the strength of these families was inspiring. My gratitude for life’s simplest moments increased alongside with my sensitivity and respect for to the strength and resilience of the human spirit.    In these community settings  and my private practice, I saw people struggling with every imaginable challenge: physical, mental and emotional. My work reached across culture and socio economic levels.  I developed a brief therapy model to assess strength and challenges in body, mind, emotion and spirit.  The Innerlandscape model combined my learning in psychology with my studies of the Medicine Wheel, indigenous cultures, Women’s Mysteries and Buddhism.
